SMSC/British Values

SMSC/British Values

At Hawksworth Wood Primary School we recognise the importance of Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSC) and provide learning opportunities to improve our pupils’ knowledge and understanding of this. The teaching of SMSC (including British Values) is embedded in our curriculum as well as our school ethos.

Spiritual

We encourage our pupils to explore their beliefs and experiences; respect faiths, feelings and values; enjoy learning about themselves, others and their surrounding world; use their imagination and creativity and reflect.

Moral

We encourage our pupils to recognise right and wrong; respect the law; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues and offer reasoned views.

Social

We encourage our pupils to use a range of social skills; participate in their local community; appreciate diverse viewpoints; participate, volunteer and cooperate; resolve conflict and engage with the ‘British Values’ of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

Cultural

We encourage our pupils to appreciate cultural influences; appreciate the role of Britain’s parliamentary system; participate in culture opportunities and understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity.
