Music
Music is a central part of life at Hawksworth Wood. We believe that Music forms and integral part of a holistic education and should inspire children’s love for listening to and creating music and song in a variety of contexts. Music is a universal language of emotion and creativity, providing children with an important outlet and medium for exploration. We’re very lucky to have our own specialist teacher in school who teaches Music to all classes and year groups. We combine elements of the Kapow scheme of music alongside units from The Royal Opera House National Schools Programme and Louder than Life Big Samba. Year 3 & 4 have whole class recorder lessons and Year 5 & 6 learn to play the glockenspiel. We ensure opportunities to experiment with and learn to play, improvise and compose on instruments are given to all pupils. Our weekly singing assemblies with a professional accompanist offer all children the opportunity to participate in the joy of singing, learning a variety of songs from various places and cultures and enhancing their music skills, building on what they have learned in their classroom music lessons. In addition, we offer small group flute, keyboard and guitar lessons to children in key stage 2 and have a choir and a newly formed band who regularly enjoy performing in the local area and beyond
