Design Technology

Welcome to the exciting world of Design Technology at Hawksworth Wood Primary School! Our DT learning journey is a hands-on learning experience that empowers all our pupils to explore, innovate and create. From the principles of design, to exploring some technological advancements, our curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, develop critical thinking and nurture problem-solving skills while developing resilience and allowing the imagination to run free.

From EYFS through to Year 6, our children are immersed in an exciting DT learning experience that broadens their understanding of the wider world.  From cooking meals inspired by different cultures, to coding with Micro-bits, to building and constructing with tools and natural materials, to using a variety of joining techniques and embroidery to make real and relevant products, our DT curriculum enables our children to explore, design, create and evaluate products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts as well as learning significant life-skills.

Our DT learning is typically taught across two days per term as ‘DT Days’, where the children will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and be able to draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, art and other aspects of the wider curriculum.  Pupils learn how to take risks, become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens in a fun and inspiring way. Discover the endless possibilities of Design Technology at Hawksworth Wood Primary School – where tomorrow’s visionaries are beginning to shape the future of today!
